Dr S. Oladele

Department of Geosciences

Personal Statement

Dr Oladele holds degrees in geology and applied geophysics and has a passionate interest in a wide range of geoscience projects that combine diverse geophysical, geological, and remote sensing datasets to address humanity’s challenges. His research concentrates on integrating geophysical techniques to explore hydrocarbons, geothermal resources, and solid minerals, as well as on tackling geo-environmental and geo-engineering issues. He is deeply committed to providing clear, high-quality subsurface images that can help identify potential resources and geohazards related to infrastructure development, supporting informed decision-making and efficient resource extraction. Ultimately, Dr Oladele’s work aims to push the boundaries of earth science through multidisciplinary projects, geo-hazard assessment, knowledge exchange, and the promotion of sustainable resource exploration to enhance human well-being

Professor Obashoro-John is a prolific scholar and public intellectual whose works include the books Caring for Older Persons (2007), Successful Retirement (2016), and her University of Lagos Inaugural Lecture, Programme Evaluation: Back to the Future (2013). Her international scholarship includes a co-authored chapter with Professor Brian Findsen of the University of Waikato, New Zealand, addressing lifelong learning for older adults, published in Adult Education and Social Justice: International Perspectives (Firenze University Press, 2023). She has also co-authored peer-reviewed articles in public health and community education. A sought-after speaker and facilitator, she has consistently championed the view that retirement represents an opportunity for renewal and purposeful living, describing it as “freedom into freedom.”
