Dr. Olawale Johnson Allo

Personal Statement

Allo Olawale Johnson is a Senior Lecturer and researcher in the Department of Geosciences at the University of Lagos, Nigeria. His academic work spans both near-surface and exploration geophysics, reflecting a sustained engagement with the theoretical and applied dimensions of subsurface characterization. He has conducted extensive research on near-surface investigations employing seismic refraction and electrical resistivity methods, with particular attention to resolving shallow stratigraphy and geotechnical conditions.

In the exploration domain, his interests converge on hydrocarbon detection through advanced seismic methodologies, including seismic inversion, Amplitude Variation with Offset (AVO) analysis, rock physics modeling, and broader quantitative seismic interpretation techniques. His work integrates petrophysical insights with seismic attributes to enhance reservoir characterization and reduce interpretational uncertainty. He is also an AI automation and machine learning enthusiast.

Dr. Allo is an active member of the Nigeria Association of Petroleum Explorationists (NAPE) and the Society of Exploration Geophysicists (SEG), maintaining professional engagement within both national and international geophysical communities.

Professor Obashoro-John is a prolific scholar and public intellectual whose works include the books Caring for Older Persons (2007), Successful Retirement (2016), and her University of Lagos Inaugural Lecture, Programme Evaluation: Back to the Future (2013). Her international scholarship includes a co-authored chapter with Professor Brian Findsen of the University of Waikato, New Zealand, addressing lifelong learning for older adults, published in Adult Education and Social Justice: International Perspectives (Firenze University Press, 2023). She has also co-authored peer-reviewed articles in public health and community education. A sought-after speaker and facilitator, she has consistently championed the view that retirement represents an opportunity for renewal and purposeful living, describing it as “freedom into freedom.”
