Personal Statement

I am an Analytical and Environmental Chemistry Professor at the University of Lagos, Nigeria. I have over 20 years of academic and research experience in environmental pollutants, human exposure assessment, and public health. My interdisciplinary research spans persistent organic pollutants (POPs), flame retardants, pharmaceuticals, and toxic metals in environmental and biological matrices. I have led or participated in international collaborations, including the EU Horizon 2020 INTERWASTE project and multiple UKRI- and Commonwealth-funded programs.

My current research focuses on human health risks from e-waste pollution, the development of sustainable wastewater treatment technologies, and wastewater-based epidemiology. I bring expertise in mass spectrometry, exposure science, and capacity-building. I have supervised over 40 master’s dissertations and 7 Ph.D. projects and co-authored over 50 peer-reviewed publications in high-impact journals. I have the experience and commitment necessary to contribute meaningfully to collaborative research, mentorship, and policy-relevant science on environmental health.
